A person’s IQ score isn’t the only factor in his or her overall intelligence. In fact, many believe that while it can indicate how successful someone will be in academia, an IQ score is just one factor in determining overall success in a career and in life. For instance, emotional intelligence and even working memory are important aspects of thriving in a career that aren’t technically under the umbrella of general intelligence. That said, having a high IQ score is nothing to scoff at. Research has shown that people with higher IQ’s have a very good chance of thriving – think Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg or Warren Buffet. And it’s for that reason, along with just simple curiosity, that many people want to find out their IQ scores. If you’re interested in learning yours, here are two ways you can find out how to estimate my IQ:
1. Use a standardized test score
The high-IQ society Mensa is able to take scores from hundreds of different standardized tests when determining whether a person has a high enough IQ to be accepted. In other words, if a person hasn’t taken an IQ test, but has scored high enough on his or her SAT or LSAT, he or she may be qualified to join the society. You can estimate your IQ score using the same methods. Take the SAT I, for instance: If your composite SAT I score is between 1500 and 1600, your IQ score likely falls somewhere between 144 and 153. A score between 1100 and 1200 may indicate an estimated IQ of 115-123. Take a look at SAT and GRE conversion charts to see how your scores on those two tests measure up on the IQ spectrum.
2. Take a certified IQ test
If you’re looking for a more accurate estimate of your IQ score, the best way to determine your intelligence is by taking a certified IQ test online. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of online IQ tests floating around, so make sure to take one that’s been Ph.D. certified for your IQ estimator.
Not sure what your IQ score even says about your intelligence? According to the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, scores between 90 and 109 represent average intelligence, IQ scores of 110 to 119 indicate above average, scores between 120 and 129 are classified as superior, and scores of 130 and above indicate very superior intelligence.
